2011 Nobel Prize in Medicine Winners may result a cure for Cancer

2011 Nobel Prize for Medicine has been awarded to three scientists.
Bruce Beutler of the United States, Jules Hoffmann of Luxembourg and Ralph Steinman of Canada.

They have been presented this award for their work on the immune system and it's numerous unknown functions. The findings may lead to a cure for cancer and many other diseases.

"This year's Nobel laureates have revolutionized our understanding of the immune system by discovering key principles for its activation,"-Award panel at Sweden's Karolinska Institute

Here are a few of the items that they have been working on.
Improved Vaccines against infectious diseases
New cancer fighting methods.
Methods that stimulate the immune system to attack tumors.
Furthered approaches in treating inflammatory diseases (rheumatoid arthritis)
Autoimmune inflammatory diseases(such as type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis)

"I am very excited about what these discoveries mean. I think that we will have new, better vaccines against microbes and that is very much needed now with the increased resistance against antibiotics."-Lars Klareskog, chair person for the Nobel Assembly.
